Reviews
“As a mom, I love finding books that make learning feel like play, and The Unknown Gnome from Nome does exactly that! The clever wordplay and adorable characters will keep your kids engaged while naturally teaching language, kindness, and the value of celebrating each person’s unique gifts. I especially appreciated how the story encourages children to care for others and shows that our differences or different situations make us stronger when we work together. Witty word play with homophones are fun to look for!
It’s a fun, meaningful read that our family will enjoy again and again!”

“The Unknown Gnome from Nome is a clever, engaging picture book that manages to make language arts instruction feel less like a lesson and more like an adventure. It transforms abstract spelling patterns and phonics rules into an imaginative journey that kids actually want to re-read. The rhythmic, clever phrasing practically begs to be read aloud, inviting students to spot the matching sound pairs on each page.
As an elementary school principal, I am always searching for literature that bridges the gap between foundational literacy standards and genuine student engagement. The Unknown Gnome from Nome does exactly that. It transforms abstract spelling patterns and phonics rules into an imaginative journey that kids actually want to re-read.”

This is a book that I would’ve loved to have when my children were growing up, but especially as a classroom teacher. It lends itself to being used to develop an array of lessons, not only in teaching homophones, but also in conveying messages about the importance of friendship and self-esteem. I can imagine many interactive lessons with this as the catalyst!
The vulnerability of each character is displayed in a way that is relative to children. The power of friendship permeates throughout the story as the group builds each other up, resulting in improved positive feelings of self. The illustrations enhance the beauty of the story.
I highly recommend this book to parents and teachers alike!
